Wyoming, Michigan

ISA Certified Arborist serving Wyoming and surrounding communities. Expert tree care, honest pricing, 24/7 emergency response.

If you live in Wyoming, you've probably got a big silver Maple that drops branches every storm, a dead ash tree you've been putting off, or a tree that's gotten way too close to the house. That's most of the calls we get here. The older neighborhoods between 28th and 44th were planted heavy in the ’50s and ’60s, and those trees are all hitting that age at the same time.

Wyoming is the second-largest city in Kent County, and on a tree inventory it looks like a city built on one decision: plant a silver Maple in every front yard in 1955 and see what happens. Seventy years later, we know what happens. Wyoming is silver Maple country right now in the way that's about to become silver Maple removal country. These are the postwar ranch neighborhoods — dense blocks, tight lots, driveway on one side, 50-foot-by-120-foot yards, and a pair of co-dominant silver Maples that were cheap and fast then and are end-of-life now. Included bark at the leader union, decay at the base, and a failure pattern that's completely predictable: one leader splits out in a wet-snow event, then the rest of the tree follows within a year or two. Layer in the EAB wave, which took out most of the ash on those same streets and left the canopy thinner than it looks in a satellite photo, and you've got a city in the middle of a real canopy transition. Wyoming also carries more rental properties than some of the other neighborhoods on our map, which changes the work — a lot of the calls we get are deferred maintenance that went unaddressed for five or ten years because the tenant wasn't going to call and the landlord wasn't going to volunteer, and now the tree is a problem that has to be solved today. Oak wilt pressure shows up on red Oaks in the older wooded lots, and we stay off the saw on red Oak April through July like everywhere else in Kent County. Clay soil holds water, shallow root plates fail in straight-line wind, and wet-snow loading takes out silver Maple leaders on a schedule we could almost mark on a calendar. Matthew Bossche is an ISA Certified Arborist (MI-4776A).

We're B's Trees, and Wyoming is on our daily working map. The postwar ranch neighborhoods here are full of 70-year-old silver Maples finally running out of time — co-dominant leaders with included bark, failing one at a time every wet-snow event — and the canopy is still thin from the EAB wave that took the Ash a decade ago. This is where we spend real hours every week. Need a tree pruned, removed, or just looked at by someone who actually knows what they're talking about, give us a call.

What We See Most in Wyoming

We work in Wyoming enough to know what's going on with the trees here. A few things come up over and over:

Why Wyoming Homeowners Call Us

We're not a franchise. We're not a call center. B's Trees is a locally owned tree service that works in Wyoming regularly.

I'm Matthew Bossche, ISA Certified Arborist. I started B's Trees because I got tired of seeing tree companies show up with a chainsaw and no plan. We do things differently — we look at the tree, we look at the site, and we figure out the right approach before anyone starts cutting. That matters when you've got a big maple between two houses on a 50-foot lot and there's zero room for mistakes.

We've got a crane for the jobs that need it, climbing gear for the ones that don't, and we clean up everything when we're done. Fully insured, no deposit, free estimates. Pretty simple.

Do I Need a Permit in Wyoming?

Short answer: probably not. Wyoming doesn't have a tree ordinance for private property — if it's your tree, you can take it down. The only exception is trees in the city right-of-way (the strip between your sidewalk and the street). Those belong to the city. If you're not sure which side of the line your tree is on, we'll figure it out when we come out for the estimate.

How Much Does Tree Work Cost in Wyoming?

Frequently Asked Questions — Wyoming

Does Wyoming, MI require a permit to remove a tree on private property?

Wyoming does not have a strict tree ordinance for private property. Homeowners can generally remove trees on their own land without a city permit. However, trees in the public right-of-way (between the sidewalk and the street) are city-owned and require approval before any work. During your free estimate, our ISA Certified Arborist will clarify whether your tree falls on private property or in the right-of-way.

How much does tree removal cost in Wyoming, MI?

Tree removal in Wyoming typically ranges from $500 to $5,000+, depending on tree size, proximity to structures, and access. Many of Wyoming's older neighborhoods have large trees on smaller lots, which can require crane-assisted removal or careful rigging. We provide free on-site estimates with no obligation and no deposit required.

Are there still ash trees worth saving in Wyoming?

Some ash trees in Wyoming that received early and consistent EAB treatment are still viable. However, any untreated ash that has lost more than 50% of its canopy is generally past the point of recovery and should be removed before it becomes a falling hazard. Our arborist will assess canopy health, bark condition, and woodpecker activity to determine whether treatment or removal is the better option.

What trees grow best as replacements in Wyoming yards?

For Wyoming's smaller residential lots, we often recommend medium-sized species like honeylocust, swamp white Oak, Kentucky coffeetree, or disease-resistant elm cultivars. These provide good shade without overwhelming compact yards. Species selection depends on sun exposure, soil conditions, and proximity to structures. Our arborist can recommend specific trees during your estimate.
